“Several of our heroes are great, but you are the greatest of all.”
Allama Iqbal is my favourite author. He is our national poet. He is a universal poet, in particular of the Islamic world. He has written poetry in Urdu and Persian. Iqbal wrote lyrics. (“ghazals”) first of all. These poems are about beauty and love. Iqbal sees the beauty of Nature. He expresses his love for it in his poems like “Kashmir.” In these poems, he writes about birds, mountains, hills, streams and beautiful scenes in Nature. Iqbal thinks that love can have a very positive effect on us. It makes us noble in action and thought. Iqbal thinks that the best kind of love is that we have for God. Iqbal is very famous for two religious poems, Shikwa and Jawab-i-Shikwa. Our common people everywhere, in the village and cities, read these poems. Here Iqbal tries to tell us how we can come to be true Muslims.
Iqbal wrote three books of poetry in Urdu. These are Bang-i-Dara, Bal-i-Jibreel and Zarb-i-Kalim. He offers extremely useful ideas on human life, Nature and God in these poems. Iqbal is a true philosopher in his Persian poetry. In it, he has expressed his ideas on society and religion. We have deep feelings of joy while reading Iqbal’s poems. Their language is as beautiful as their ideas. The combination of the two takes him quite close to artistic perfection.[the_ad id=”17141″]
Iqbal, our national poet, gave the message of unity to the Indian Muslims. He awakened the sleeping nation. He told the Muslims that, through unity and struggle, they would be able to win Independence. In fact, Iqbal asked all the Muslims of the world to unite. The best of his poetry gives the message of “world Muslim unity.” He means to say that all the Muslim nations are in reality one great nation, as all Muslims believe in one God and His Prophet (may peace be upon him). Iqbal is really our greatest modern Urdu and Persian poet. We respect and love him as he showed us the right path and brightened (illuminated) it with his poetic magic.
