A healthy mind can be found only in a healthy body. In a weak body, there cannot be a healthy and active mind. And for a healthy body, physical exercise is a must. Without physical exercise, our body will grow weak, lethargic and dull. The aim of education is the all round development of personality. It cannot afford to neglect the physical aspect of the student. Development of mind and body are equally important in any good education.
Want of proper physical exercise in the form of games and sports develops many mental problems. Mere intellectual attainment is not enough. Good health and sound body are also a must to face the challenges of life. Therefore, games and sports are an integral part of a college education. Education will remain incomplete without physical training and exercise.

is a famous saying. After studies some kind of physical exercise, games, and sports are necessary. They refresh the body and mind and provide recreation. A game of football or volleyball in the open air is very refreshing. A game of hockey or a match of badminton will help a student regain his lost mental and physical energy. There will be a greater intake of oxygen, better blood circulation and digestion because of these. In the open, where games are played there is fresh air, openness, and presence of nature. They have a very healthy influence on the players.

Games also provide us with the best use of leisure time.
Famous players and sports persons bring credit for themselves and the country. They are famous and popular and work as the country’s cultural ambassadors. They strengthen international integration. But games are not means and an end in themselves. They should not be practised at the cost of studies. Excess of everything is bad. They should be played and enjoyed only in spare time. They are real boon and blessing if done properly and wisely.
Pakistan needs good and great players and sportspersons. They are in great demand to participate in national and international events. Pakistan record in this respect has been very poor. The boys and girls should be caught at a very young age and trained in different games and sports. There should be no school or college without a proper playground attached to it. Mere mental education is of no use without physical education. They should go hand in hand as an integral part of education. They are complementary to each other.

The value of sports and games is recognized by all educationists today. Books develop our mind but games develop our body. A sound mind is always there in a sound body. This truth is universally acknowledged and accepted. Physical fitness, free from all ailments, is the desire of every human being. Sports make our body stout and muscular. They fill the body with strength and vigor, they expand our lungs and increase the blood circulation. If one is physically fit, one feels happy and finds oneself capable of hard work.
Games and sports inculcate in us a spirit of sportsmanship, honesty, punctuality, the regularity of habits. They also teach us the qualities of team spirit, leadership and obedience. They provide us a good training for playing the game of life in a sporting way. A true sportsman will not be sad at his defeat and not be overjoyed on his success. A true sportsman plays the game for the game’s sake and not for winning always.
Each game is played under certain rules which are to be obeyed by all the players. Therefore, sports teach us obedience and discipline and teach us the importance of cooperative efforts. They teach us how to command and how to obey. Above all, they encourage and develop the spirit of competition, a healthy spirit of rivalry and constantly lead to an improvement in performance. Excess of games and sports may, however, make one neglect one’s studies and regular work.
